Overview
An established civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Sub Agent to join their Eastern Region highways and heavy civils team. Based initially in Leiston, Suffolk, this hands-on role supports delivery of roads and highways infrastructure schemes across the region. You’ll work alongside site and project management to drive safe, profitable, and on-time delivery while developing your career within a supportive, people-focused business.
Key responsibilities

Support the Site Agent / Project Manager in planning, organising and delivering smaller construction contracts.

Supervise and coordinate site operatives and subcontractors; maintain high standards of site performance.

Prepare and maintain method statements, hazard/risk assessments and project management plans.

Monitor contract costs, manage tender allowances and report against agreed budgets.

Prepare, update and control programmes of work to meet milestones.

Assess, procure and manage subcontract packages.

Coordinate design activities and manage design interface with delivery teams.

Ensure contracts are delivered promptly and profitably, maintaining client expectations.

Liaise with local stakeholders and community groups as required to protect project reputation.

Promote a positive client relationship and represent the business professionally on site.
Qualifications & experience

Significant main-contract civils experience, including roads and highways schemes.

Experience working for a main contractor and familiarity with the NEC form of contract.

Proven people-management skills and ability to instruct and motivate site teams.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan ahead and manage competing demands.

Relevant industry qualification (e.g. SMSTS or equivalent).

Full UK driving licence (essential) and willingness to travel across the Eastern Region.

First Aid at Work qualification (desirable).
