Security Design Engineer – Critical National Infrastructure

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Security Design Engineer to join a specialist security and technology team delivering integrated electronic security solutions across some of the UK's most critical infrastructure environments.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile programmes where security, resilience, and operational continuity are paramount. You'll be designing and developing solutions that protect nationally important assets, strategic estates, and regulated infrastructure across the UK.

Responsibilities
- Lead site visits and act as a key point of contact for subcontract design coordination
- Develop electronic security scopes and technical specifications following site surveys and 3D data capture
- Produce detailed design documentation including system layouts, network architecture, cable schedules, and technical specifications
- Manage Technical Queries (TQs) and support formal change control processes
- Review subcontractor designs, technical submissions, and specifications to ensure compliance and quality
- Support bid, tender, and project delivery teams with technical expertise
- Ensure designs meet client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory obligations
- Drive innovation, value engineering, and continuous improvement across project delivery
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, operational, and project teams throughout the design lifecycle
Qualifications
- Experience designing integrated electronic security systems within infrastructure, utilities, defence, government, transportation, or other regulated environments
- Strong knowledge of Access Control, Intruder Detection, IP CCTV, Intercom, and integrated security platforms
- Experience integrating systems with ARC, RVRC, or similar security management solutions
- Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation including URS, FDS, and associated design deliverables
- Good understanding of CDM regulations and design responsibilities
- Competent user of Microsoft Office
- ONC, HNC, BEng, or equivalent industry experience
Desirable
- Experience working on Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) projects
- Water sector or regulated industry experience
- AutoCAD and/or BIM experience
- Familiarity with PAS 1192 environments
- Experience using AMTECH or similar design software
