EC&I Design Engineer

Overview:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an EC&I Design Engineer to join a growing engineering business delivering complex electrical, control and instrumentation solutions across the UK energy and infrastructure sectors.

As an EC&I Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical, control and instrumentation systems from concept through to commissioning. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will produce high-quality engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation while supporting the successful delivery of technically challenging projects, with excellent opportunities for ongoing training and career progression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) designs for a range of engineering projects.
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation drawings including single line diagrams, cable block diagrams, loop drawings, hook-up drawings, layouts and general arrangement drawings.
  • Complete electrical and instrumentation design calculations, including cable sizing and lighting calculations.
  • Produce technical documentation, design dossiers and engineering reports.
  • Interpret client specifications and technical requirements.
  • Carry out site surveys and gather design information.
  • Participate in HAZOP studies and other process safety reviews.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, industry standards and health & safety requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams, stakeholders and installation engineers throughout project delivery.
  • Attend project meetings, workshops and training sessions.
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Qualifications & Experience:

The successful EC&I Design Engineer will ideally have:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical, Control, Instrumentation or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum three years' experience in an EC&I Design Engineer or similar role.
  • Working knowledge of BS7671 (18th Edition).
  • Experience producing EC&I design drawings and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and knowledge of software such as EPLAN, MicroStation, AMTECH ProDesign and Dialux.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, engineering calculations and ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Professionally registered (IEng or CEng), or working towards registration.
  • Experience of panel FAT testing, inspection and commissioning.
  • Programming, data analysis or hazardous area design (COMPEX12) experience.
