We’re looking for an experienced Design Manager to join a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure business working as part of a major water infrastructure alliance.
With AMP8 bringing the largest capital investment programme in the organisation's history, this is an opportunity to join at an exciting time and take a leading role in delivering major projects across the water sector.
The role will focus on a portfolio of potable water, non-infrastructure and water treatment projects, including a high-profile £60m water treatment works upgrade.
What You'll Be Doing
As Design Manager, you'll lead a multidisciplinary engineering team of around 15–20 engineers and design professionals, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of engineering solutions across your portfolio.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading multidisciplinary design delivery across a portfolio of water projects.
- Developing Engineering Project Plans covering scope, programme, cost, risk and resources.
- Providing technical direction alongside Senior Discipline Engineers.
- Managing design quality and ensuring a right-first-time approach.
- Coordinating suppliers, subcontractors and external design partners.
- Supporting project programmes, cost control and value engineering.
- Developing sustainable and carbon-conscious design solutions.
- Undertaking delegated Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM.
- Managing design risk assessments and health & safety documentation.
- Leading, mentoring and developing the design team.
- Supporting recruitment and resource planning.
- Driving innovation, digital technology and continuous improvement.
- Supporting the transition and transformation of the engineering function through AMP8.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with experienced Design Managers who have:
- A degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience within the water industry.
- Ideally, experience delivering potable water and non-infrastructure treatment projects.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering/design teams.
- Strong design management and project delivery experience.
- Knowledge of CDM and design risk management.
- Chartered Engineer status, or a willingness to work towards Chartership, would be advantageous.
