Overview
SHEQ Advisor required to support the safe delivery of essential water infrastructure works across the North East on the Northubmbrian Water Framework. The SHEQ Advisor will work closely with operational teams delivering clean water and wastewater activities, including repairs and maintenance, mains replacement, lead replacement, reinstatement, smart metering and associated civils works.
The SHEQ Advisor will play a key role in improving safety performance, strengthening compliance and supporting a strong behavioural safety culture across live sites and field-based operations. The SHEQ Advisor will need proven experience within construction, utilities or water frameworks, with the confidence to influence site teams and subcontractors in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
The SHEQ Advisor will:
- Provide day-to-day SHEQ advice and support to site teams, supervisors and subcontractors.
- Carry out site inspections, audits and risk reviews, ensuring the SHEQ Advisor identifies issues early and drives corrective action.
- Support the SHEQ Advisor role in promoting positive behaviours, safe systems of work and high standards of compliance.
- Review RAMS, permits, site controls and operational arrangements to ensure safe delivery.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances, identifying root causes and supporting lessons learned.
- Deliver briefings, toolbox talks and coaching to improve awareness and performance.
- Work with managers and delivery teams to improve SHEQ standards across the framework.
- Support compliance with CDM Regulations and wider construction, utilities and environmental requirements.
- Assist the SHEQ Advisor function in monitoring waste management, pollution prevention and environmental controls.
- Build strong relationships with client, supply chain and operational teams to support safe, efficient delivery.
Qualifications
Essential:
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
- Previous SHEQ Advisor experience within civil engineering, pipeline, utilities or water infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Experience of site auditing, incident investigation and corrective action management.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Previous SHEQ Advisor experience on water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure framework projects.
- Experience supporting live operational sites and field-based teams.
- IOSH membership or working towards membership.
