Senior Engineer – Infrastructure

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering major infrastructure improvements on a high-profile highways scheme designed to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and support regional growth.

You will take responsibility for setting out, engineering control, and quality assurance, while coordinating and mentoring the site engineering team to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance of a safe working environment and contribute to project planning and resource coordination.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance to ensure works are delivered in line with programme requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and implement Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Lead and supervise the site engineering team, delegating responsibilities and supporting the development of junior engineers.
  • Manage project schedules, attend coordination meetings, and provide progress updates where required.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, raising RFIs and technical queries where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate site records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with commercial teams to support accurate reporting and assist with snagging and quality close-out processes.
  • Promote efficient working practices and minimise waste on site.

About You

  • Strong understanding of safe working practices and the ability to interpret technical drawings and data accurately.
  • Advanced setting out capability, including experience with Levels, EDM, and GPS equipment.
  • Previous experience delivering civil engineering projects within sectors such as highways, rail, aviation, or water infrastructure.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to delegate effectively and solve problems proactively.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • SMSTS and CSCS certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD software.
