A growing construction consultancy is looking for an experienced Principal Designer (Building Regulations) to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering projects in line with the Building Safety Act, advising clients and design teams while ensuring compliance throughout the design and delivery process.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working client-facing, influencing design decisions, and shaping safe, compliant buildings from concept through to completion.

The Role
As a Building Regulations Principal Designer, you will play a key role in supporting clients and design teams in navigating the evolving building safety landscape.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as Principal Designer under the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations.
- Advising clients and project teams on Building Safety Act compliance.
- Coordinating design teams to ensure regulatory compliance throughout all project stages.
- Managing and maintaining design compliance trackers and documentation.
- Supporting Gateway submissions and Building Safety Regulator engagement.
- Ensuring the Golden Thread of information is maintained.
- Leading or attending client and design team meetings to provide regulatory guidance.
- Reviewing design information to confirm compliance with current legislation.
- Coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors and specialist consultants.
- Supporting High-Risk Building (HRB) projects where required.
- Carrying out site inspections where necessary.
- Contributing to bid submissions and business development activities.
Requirements
To be considered for the role, you will ideally have:
- A degree in Architecture, Building Control, Building Surveying, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and current Building Regulations.
- Experience working in a design, building control or compliance-based role.
- Understanding of the design and construction process across multiple RIBA stages.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in client-facing environments.
Desirable:
- Professional membership with RICS, CABE, RIBA, CIAT, CIOB, APS or similar.
- Experience working on High-Risk Buildings (HRBs).
- Experience using CAD or Revit.
- NEBOSH or similar health and safety qualification.
Employment Type
This role is offered on a permanent basis, however the business would also consider freelance candidates operating outside IR35.
