Mobile plant fitter

As a Mobile Plant Fitter, you’ll be responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and non-mechanical assets within our hire fleet. You’ll operate independently across multiple sites, ensuring equipment is safe, compliant, and operating efficiently. This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring a customer-focused, organised, and technically skilled engineer.

Key Responsibilities

Service & Maintenance

  • Service and repair plant equipment, following manufacturer and company standards

  • Attend breakdowns, carry out scheduled on-site servicing, and update job records

  • Identify damage, process rechargeable repairs, and document with supporting photos

  • Create and update workshop jobs using internal systems, noting parts used and hours worked

  • Maintain van stock of tools, spares, and consumables; flag shortfalls for ordering

  • Record accurate data on all completed work and ensure timely documentation

Customer Interaction & Site Work

  • Liaise with customers during site visits to update on progress and downtime

  • Complete condition reports and scheduled servicing documentation on site

  • Travel across regions to meet service demands while representing the company professionally

Commercial & Stock Management

  • Ensure accurate stock picking and report any discrepancies or delays

  • Support annual and ad hoc stock checks; maintain accurate stock levels in the system

  • Recommend disposals of redundant equipment

Quality & Compliance

  • Work in line with HSEQ procedures and report any risks or accidents appropriately

  • Use correct PPE and maintain clean, safe work areas including van and depots

  • Suggest improvements to processes and report non-compliance

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience as a Plant Fitter or Engineer working with plant and/or specialist equipment

  • Strong mechanical skills and ability to work independently

  • Computer literate and comfortable with internal service systems

  • Clear communicator with attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • NVQ or City & Guilds in Plant Maintenance

  • Valid CSCS Card

  • Forklift licence
