Role Overview
The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring stock availability to meet customer demand while optimising inventory levels, reducing obsolescence, and driving overall supply chain efficiency. This position serves as a vital connection between procurement, suppliers, warehouse operations, and sales teams to ensure seamless product flow through the distribution network.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain material planning parameters (e.g. safety stock, lead times, reorder points) in ERP/MRP systems.
- Monitor demand forecasts and customer orders to create accurate material plans and maintain optimal inventory levels.
- Collaborate with procurement to manage purchase orders, monitor supplier performance, and resolve shortages or delays.
- Work with warehouse, logistics, and sales teams to coordinate stock availability, inbound deliveries, and order fulfilment.
- Produce regular reports on inventory, supplier performance, and forecast accuracy, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and service levels.

Essential
- Previous experience in material planning, inventory management, or procurement (preferably within distribution or wholesale).
- Working knowledge of CRM systems.
- Strong computer literacy and analytical skills.
- Understanding of supply chain and procurement best practices.
Desirable
- CIPS qualification (or currently working towards).
- Experience in a data-driven or ERP/MRP-led environment.
