Environmental Lead

Overview

Working on behalf of an exciting contractor, we are recruiting an Environmental Lead to join a busy QHSE function. This hybrid role is based in Ipswich with regular travel to project sites. Office, home and site working will be required — a full UK driving licence is essential.

Key Responsibilities

As the Environmental Lead you will:

  • Develop and drive the environmental strategy and sustainability objectives across the business.

  • Lead environmental data management, analysis and reporting (including energy and carbon/SECR requirements).

  • Provide practical environmental advice to project teams on design, compliance and construction matters.

  • Manage compliance with environmental legislation and client requirements across multiple projects.

  • Plan and deliver audits and inspections in line with ISO 14001 and PAS 2080, and lead corrective actions.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for environmental matters with clients, contractors and regulators.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and deliver targeted training to site and office teams.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in an environmental role within construction, utilities, infrastructure or civil engineering.

  • Professional membership with a recognised environmental body is desirable, for example IEMA, CIEEM or CIWEM.

  • Knowledge of environmental assessment and impact management, SECR, ESOS, PAS 2080 and PPN06/21.

  • Familiarity with corporate carbon frameworks (for example Science Based Targets initiative) is advantageous.

  • Strong communicator, confident with stakeholder engagement and regulatory liaison.
