Divisional Director

Overview

A leading infrastructure services provider is seeking a high-calibre Divisional Director to lead and expand its Transmission Services Division, specialising in the maintenance and protective coatings of high-voltage overhead line assets. This is a senior leadership role with full operational and commercial responsibility for a nationally significant business unit that supports the UK’s energy infrastructure.

This opportunity is ideal for a results-driven leader with deep industry expertise in electricity transmission, high-voltage infrastructure, and safety-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team across operations, compliance, commercial, and project delivery

  • Oversee the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance and painting works on high-voltage transmission assets, ensuring compliance with client specifications, safety legislation, and quality standards

  • Own and manage the division’s profit and loss account, ensuring revenue growth, cost control, and commercial performance

  • Develop and execute business plans aligned with wider company strategy and operational objectives

  • Identify and secure new business opportunities in the transmission and critical infrastructure sectors

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, including National Grid, DNOs, and principal contractors

  • Act as the senior point of contact for major stakeholders, representing the business at industry forums and client meetings

  • Champion a proactive safety culture, lead investigations where necessary, and ensure all work adheres to HSE regulations and internal procedures

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven senior leadership experience within the transmission, utilities, or infrastructure sectors

  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of managing P&L and driving business growth

  • In-depth knowledge of high-voltage (HV) transmission networks and overhead line maintenance operations

  • Demonstrable experience in managing teams and delivering works in safety-critical environments

  • Excellent stakeholder and client management skills, with the ability to lead both strategic and operational engagement

  • Relevant qualifications in engineering, project management, or utilities (e.g., HNC/HND, BEng, or equivalent)

  • High-voltage specific certifications, including:

    • National Grid Person and BESC (Basic Electrical Safety Competence)

    • Authorised Person (AP) or Competent Person (CP) – HV Switching

    • Working at Height / Tower Rescue certification

  • NEBOSH or equivalent health & safety qualification (preferred)
