As Design Manager, you will act as the organisation’s Designated Individual for Temporary Works (BS 5975), with responsibility for managing procedures, approving staff appointments, and reviewing subcontractor activities. Key responsibilities include:

Leading, mentoring, and developing the design team to achieve technical excellence and project efficiency

Managing, producing, and approving temporary works solutions, including structural stress assessments using steel, timber, and polymers

Applying advanced analysis techniques, including Finite Element Analysis, for structural assessments

Producing high-quality 2D and 3D models/drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor

Acting as process owner for design activities, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and client requirements

Driving innovation through exploring alternative construction methods and staying up to date with emerging products and techniques

Collaborating closely with operations, project management, and commercial teams to provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle

Overseeing document control, design meetings, package reviews, and technical workshops

Supporting tender reviews, identifying opportunities for value engineering, and ensuring alignment with budgets and programmes

Embedding a strong culture of health and safety in all aspects of design
Qualifications

MEng/MSc in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or related discipline

Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)

Minimum of 5 years’ experience delivering design solutions from first principles

Proven track record in leading technical teams and managing design processes

Familiarity with specifications and standards including BS 5975 and Eurocodes, with experience of National Grid, Cadent, SGN, or NGN projects desirable

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
