Site Engineer

Overview

We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering long-term water and utilities infrastructure projects across the Thames Valley and Hertfordshire region. This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Engineer to work on a secure framework involving clean water and wastewater improvement schemes, supporting the delivery of essential infrastructure from construction through to completion.

The successful Site Engineer will play a key role in setting out works, maintaining quality standards, ensuring technical compliance and supporting the safe delivery of projects within a highly regulated utilities environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out all setting out duties using robotic total stations, GPS and surveying equipment.
  • Establish and maintain survey control and site levels throughout each project.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications and design information.
  • Produce and maintain accurate site records, surveys, as-built information and quality documentation.
  • Prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), site diaries and task briefings.
  • Assist with short-term planning, look-ahead programmes and coordination of site activities.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues on site, escalating where required.
  • Support the Site Agent and project team to deliver works safely, on programme and within budget.
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality across all activities.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to ensure materials and resources are available when required.
  • Contribute to value engineering opportunities and continuous improvement throughout project delivery.
  • Ensure all works comply with current legislation, industry standards and company procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering, water, utilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong setting out experience using robotic total stations, GPS or EDM surveying equipment.
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Good understanding of UK construction health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical information.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
  • CSCS Card is essential.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, temporary works, confined spaces, cable avoidance, First Aid or IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications would be advantageous.
