The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll work closely with operational, delivery, and commercial teams to drive strong financial control across a portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects ranging from £200k to £10m+.
You’ll take ownership of commercial performance from start to finish—managing risk, maximising value, and ensuring robust contract administration across frameworks, maintenance works, capital schemes, and emergency response projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Commercial Leadership
- Lead monthly CVRs, cost/value reporting, and financial forecasting
- Drive cost control, cash flow management, and margin improvement
- Own valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
- Identify risks, variations, and commercial opportunities early
- Support site teams with real-time commercial insight and decision-making
Subcontract & Supply Chain Management
- Manage procurement, negotiation, and subcontractor performance
- Oversee payments, variations, and final account settlements
- Build strong, performance-driven supply chain relationships
- Ensure commercial compliance and contract governance across packages
Contract Administration (NEC Focus)
- Administer NEC contracts (with exposure to IChemE advantageous)
- Manage compensation events, change control, and claims
- Ensure contractual accuracy and protect commercial position
- Support effective risk management across all project stages
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Deliver accurate and timely commercial reporting
- Maintain high standards across internal processes and governance
- Contribute to commercial best practice and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work closely with teams to improve efficiency and profitability
About You
Essential
- Proven experience in Quantity Surveying within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, or construction
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
- Confident managing subcontractors, forecasting, and cost control
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Comfortable working across multiple live projects simultaneously
Desirable
- Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
- MRICS or working towards chartership
- Experience within a self-delivery environment
- CSCS card
- Exposure to water, rail, utilities, or infrastructure frameworks
