Senior Commercial Manager – Civils Contractor

Location: Remote working with occasional travel to the Hemel Hempstead office and project sites
Reporting to: Commercial / Operations Director

Role Overview

The Senior Commercial Manager will provide strategic and operational commercial leadership across the business. This is a senior role responsible for overseeing commercial performance, contract strategy, risk management and profitability across multiple civils projects.

The role offers remote working as standard, with occasional travel to the office and project sites for meetings, reviews and stakeholder engagement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial leadership across all projects, ensuring profitable and compliant delivery

  • Lead contract strategy, negotiations and commercial risk management

  • Support bid and tender reviews, pricing strategy and contract governance

  • Oversee forecasting, cashflow management and cost control

  • Manage variations, compensation events, claims and dispute avoidance

  • Produce monthly commercial reports and attend senior leadership reviews

  • Work closely with operations, estimating and project delivery teams

  • Identify and implement value engineering and cost optimisation opportunities

  • Mentor and develop commercial staff, promoting best practice across the business

  • Maintain strong client relationships and represent the business commercially


Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in a Senior Commercial Manager or similar role within civils or infrastructure

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract

  • Demonstrated experience managing commercial risk on live civils projects

  • Confident leader with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills

  • Commercially astute with excellent financial, reporting and analytical capability

  • Comfortable working remotely while remaining engaged with internal teams and external stakeholders
