About the Role
Step into a senior commercial leadership role with a leading civil engineering and infrastructure specialist delivering major projects that support the UK’s essential infrastructure.
With a significant pipeline of investment ahead, our client is looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to help drive commercial excellence across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects. From established frameworks to bespoke projects and emergency works, you’ll play a key role in delivering successful outcomes across projects ranging from £200k to £10m+.
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide strategic commercial support to project delivery teams and senior management, acting as a trusted commercial advisor while identifying opportunities, managing risk, and driving efficiencies.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex projects, influence commercial performance, and support the continued growth and development of a high-performing infrastructure team.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management

Provide accurate and timely cost, value, and performance reporting at project and business unit level

Lead cost management, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and monthly commercial reviews

Prepare and manage applications for payment through to final account settlement

Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation, and financial management

Identify, track, and realise commercial opportunities while protecting the business from risk

Work closely with delivery teams to improve efficiency and maximise project value

Support and mentor project teams with commercial guidance and best practice
Contracts & Procurement

Manage contract and subcontract agreements, including NEC forms of contract

Ensure contractual risks and opportunities are identified, managed, and communicated effectively

Lead subcontract procurement and post-contract management activities

Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and the wider supply chain

Support negotiations around change, claims, and additional payments
Processes & Leadership

Ensure compliance with commercial processes, governance requirements, and reporting deadlines

Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and ways of working

Share knowledge and support the development of commercial teams

Act as a commercial leader, providing insight and challenge to support successful delivery
About You
We’re looking for a confident and experienced commercial professional with strong technical knowledge and the ability to influence project outcomes.
Essential:

Significant experience within the construction or civil engineering sector

Strong understanding of NEC contracts and construction law
-
Proven experience in commercial management, subcontract procurement, and cost control
-
Experience with forecasting, cost analysis, valuations, and final accounts

Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
-
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Desirable:

RICS, CIOB, or CICES membership (or working towards)

Degree/HND (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
-
Experience working for a main contractor or direct delivery organisation

Knowledge of estimating and project commercial strategy

CSCS card
