The Opportunity
An established and growing civil engineering contractor operating within the Power sector is looking for an experienced Estimator to join its team.
The role will focus on estimating and tendering for electricity substation civils and EHV cable installation projects, working closely with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to develop accurate, competitive and commercially robust bids.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator with a background in civil engineering, utilities, power or infrastructure to take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and post-tender engagement.
The Role
As Estimator, you will be responsible for managing tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, including:
- Reviewing and assessing ITT and tender documentation
- Preparing detailed cost estimates from first principles
- Estimating substation civil engineering works, including earthworks, groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete foundations, roads, troughing, ducting and temporary works
- Estimating EHV cable installation works, including trenching, ducting, troughing, cable pulling and temporary works
- Obtaining and evaluating quotations from specialist subcontractors and suppliers
- Preparing tender programmes, drawings and supporting submission documentation
- Managing tender enquiries and ITTs within agreed deadlines
- Reviewing all technical and commercial tender information
- Organising and attending site visits where required
- Coordinating tender queries and clarifications
- Liaising with internal departments to develop accurate bid responses and supporting documentation
- Ensuring tenders are commercially reviewed prior to submission
- Compiling and professionally packaging final bid submissions
- Requesting extensions to bid deadlines where appropriate
- Following up with clients and obtaining feedback on submitted bids
- Organising and attending post-tender meetings where required
- Developing relationships with clients and engaging with them regarding current and future opportunities
About You
We are looking for an experienced Estimator with ideally 5+ years' relevant experience, preferably gained within civil engineering, utilities, power, EHV or infrastructure.
You will be:
- Highly literate and numerate
- Experienced in estimating from first principles
- Commercially aware with strong attention to detail
- Confident reviewing complex tender documentation
- Comfortable engaging with subcontractors, suppliers and clients
- Able to manage multiple tenders and challenging deadlines
- Self-motivated, organised and enthusiastic
- Equally comfortable working independently or as part of a wider team
- Confident communicating with stakeholders at all levels
