The Opportunity
Our client is an established and growing civil engineering contractor operating within the power and infrastructure sector, looking for an experienced Estimator to join its team in the Manchester area.
You'll play a key role in preparing competitive tenders for electricity substation civil works and Extra High Voltage (EHV) cable installation projects, working closely with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission, helping secure major projects within a critical and growing infrastructure sector.
The Role
You'll manage the estimating and tendering process from initial review through to final submission and post-tender engagement.
Key responsibilities include:

Reviewing ITTs, drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

Preparing detailed, first-principles cost estimates.

Estimating substation civils, including earthworks, drainage, concrete foundations, access roads, ducting and temporary works.

Estimating EHV cable installation works, including trenching, troughing and cable pulling.

Obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations.

Preparing tender programmes and supporting documentation.

Coordinating tender queries, clarifications and site visits.

Working with internal teams to develop accurate, commercially robust bids.

Reviewing and compiling final tender submissions.

Following up with clients, attending post-tender meetings and gathering feedback.

Building client relationships and identifying future opportunities.
About You
We're looking for an Estimator with ideally 5+ years' relevant experience within civil engineering, utilities, power, EHV or infrastructure.
You'll ideally have:

Strong experience in first-principles estimating.

A good understanding of construction methods and commercial principles.

The ability to interpret technical drawings and complex tender documentation.

Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.

Confidence engaging with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

The ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines.

A proactive, self-motivated approach and strong attention to detail.
