Design Engineer – Civil Engineering & Infrastructure

Linear Recruitment is currently supporting a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor in their search for a Design Engineer to join their growing technical team.

This role will focus on the design and checking of both temporary and permanent works across a range of major infrastructure projects within sectors such as water, transport, energy and the built environment. The successful candidate will also provide technical support to operational teams during both the design and construction phases of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and check detailed structural designs, including calculations, drawings, risk assessments and design certificates.

  • Produce preliminary designs and ensure all outputs comply with relevant health & safety and environmental standards.

  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure design requirements are met.

  • Provide technical support and advice to project delivery teams.

  • Identify and develop value-engineered design solutions during both design and construction stages.

  • Review complex construction methodologies, method statements, and potential defects or compensation events.

  • Support estimating teams with technical input and design-related pricing when required.

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in structural or civil engineering design, including both temporary and permanent works.

  • Strong understanding of structural design principles and construction methodologies.

  • Experience using structural analysis software, CAD packages, and design calculation tools such as MathCAD.

  • Knowledge of industry design standards including Eurocodes and BS standards (e.g. BS 5975).

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working across both site and design office environments.

  • Working towards or holding Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a recognised professional body.

  • CSCS card.
