Business Development Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a highly respected UK manufacturer of professional lighting and lighting control systems, with responsibility for developing its presence across the railways and utilities sectors.

With a heritage dating back to 1936, the business combines long-term stability with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and customer service. Over 90% of its products are manufactured in the UK, with specialist solutions already being delivered across railway environments.

The Role

This is a strategic, customer-facing business development position focused on identifying, developing and converting opportunities across the rail and utilities markets.

You will build relationships with key stakeholders including rail operators, contractors, consultants, specifiers and end users, while working closely with internal sales, design and project teams to take opportunities from initial specification through to successful delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing new business and growing existing customer relationships.
  • Identifying and managing a pipeline of rail and utilities opportunities.
  • Developing relationships with specifiers, consultants, contractors and end users.
  • Conducting customer meetings, presentations, CPDs, site visits and surveys.
  • Driving lighting specifications through to successful project completion.
  • Providing rail-sector technical and commercial guidance to Sales Engineers.
  • Preparing tenders, business cases and ROI proposals.
  • Maintaining accurate CRM records, project trackers and forecasts.
  • Monitoring market developments, competitors, products and relevant rail standards.
  • Representing the business at exhibitions and industry events.

About You

You will ideally have a background in business development, technical sales or specification-led sales within rail, infrastructure, utilities or a closely related sector.

You will be commercially driven, technically credible and comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders. Experience working with railway stations, depots or rail infrastructure would be highly advantageous.

Strong relationship-building, presentation and communication skills are essential, together with the ability to manage a sales pipeline and work autonomously from a remote base.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established and financially stable manufacturer with a strong reputation, significant UK manufacturing capability and an ambitious approach to sustainable lighting technology.

The role offers genuine scope to influence and grow the rail and utilities market while working with an experienced technical and sales team.
